  2. The picture of Henry Berry Lowry (Lowery/Lowrie) used in this Family Tree isn’t him (according to his great great great grandson Dr. Dean Chavers). Unfortunately the picture of Quinny Irvin Godwin has been mistakenly used as HBL for over 35 years. Just thought I would let you know. It is literally everywhere, so the likelihood of it being corrected is slim. Here is a message from Dr. Chavers on another blog/family history page: “Your photo of Henry Berry Lowery is actually Quinn Godwin. It got taken from Quinn’s grandson’s house under mysterious circumstances 35 years ago and published as HBL. It is unfortunate that it happened, and that you and many others were duped. Would you take it off your website? Quinn was my great-great-grandfather. See my books “Modern American Indian Leaders” and “Racism in Indian Country.”…” Here is his wiki bio: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Chavers

    1. Thanks for the heads up . The photo is sourced from HBL descendants, one of whom has written books about him and used the image. Let me check with them.

I am researching records for Elias Cumbee (b. about 1811; d. 1870) who lived in this area. His grandmother was Susan Cumbo (husband-Solomon Cumbo). She was given a land grant for plantation-lands in St. Thomas Parish (Hell Hole Swamp area). The plantation-estate was called Northampton. They also had a daughter (Susan Cumbo who married Hiram Hodge). Are we connected?

    1. Barbara, Pleasure to connect with you. We are likely distantly connected. Learning more about Solomon’s ancestry will help us better understand our possible connection. Your research on ELias and the Northampton plantation sounds fascinating. Please keep me posted! Best, Andre
